Here’s an awesome guitar lick with a couple cool variations that you can use to pull some Mark Knopfler influence into your guitar solos. Have you ever noticed how he uses all the same notes as everyone else, but somehow arranges them in such a way that it comes out sounding different and unique? That’s Mark’s mark I guess (sorry, couldn’t resist).
As mentioned in the video, it’s important to note that Mark Knopfler doesn’t use a pick. He uses his fingers for everything, and that has a massive effect on the dynamics of each note and how the sound comes out. Beyond that though, of course you can play these same lines using a pick if you wish. Personally I like using a hybrid style of pick and fingers, which I’m happy with, but I know it won’t produce the exact same tones Mark achieves. That’s okay – every player is a bit different, right?
Okay, let’s dive into the video. Prepare yourself for some Mark Knopfler inspiration!
